17,000 Years of Continuous Human Habitation
Welcome to Ocmulgee National Monument this park is a memorial to the relationship of people and natural resources. Native Americans first came here during the Paleo-Indian period hunting Ice Age mammals. Different cultures occupied this land for thousands of years. The Mississippian culture arrived here around 900 constructing mounds for their elite. Today the mounds still remain for all to see.

September 20-21, 2013 from 10:00am-6:00pm. Native American will be sharing their culture with dancing, singing, storytelling, and crafts.

Earth Lodge
Ocmulgee's Earth Lodge was once used as a council chambers by the Mississippians over 1000 years ago. The floor is orginial and dates to 1015.

This beautiful Art Moderne Visitor Center at Ocmulgee National Monument was started during the 1930's but wasn't finished until 1952. It originally housed the SouthEastern Archeological Conference, a storage and research facility that moved down to Tallahassee Florida
