The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) compiles statistical information that is used in research by a broad audience including health professionals, policy makers, physicians, health providers, and students. Information on the nation’s health is constantly changing. Over the years, NCHS has been instrumental in monitoring important changes in health trends. Each year, NCHS distributes hundreds of reports and other publications in a variety of formats, both electronic and hard copy.

 

Data and Statistics by Topic

NCHS provides a number of resources for quick access to statistics on topics of public health importance.

  • FastStats: Statistics by Topic
    An A-Z index providing quick access to statistics on topics of public health importance. Key statistics are provided for each topic as well as references to source material and related pages.
  • MMWR QuickStats
    QuickStats are a supplement to the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and highlight featured data and statistics from the latest NCHS publications.
  • Key Statistics From the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
    Presents the most up-to-date and accurate published estimates of the prevalence of health conditions and diseases in the U.S. population using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.  All results are from published reports and include references to source material.
  • Key Statistics From the National Survey of Family Growth
    Compiles some of the most important findings from the National Survey of Family Growth. All results are from published reports and include references to the source material.
  • Data Access Tools
    The NCHS website hosts a number of useful data access tools which can be used to view interactive data and tables, perform database queries, and manipulate complex data sets.
