CANCER ADVANCES IN FOCUS
Background

Cancer Advances In Focus is a fact sheet collection designed to highlight the remarkable progress we have made in cancer research, treatment, supportive care, survivorship, screening, prevention, and genetics since the National Cancer Act was signed into law in 1971. These fact sheets also look forward in time to advances that will be realized in the future. The series is intended to show the progress we have made during the past 3½ decades against individual cancers or groups of cancers, as well as the progress made in specific areas of biomedical technology and informatics that support cancer research and contribute to the development of new or refined approaches to cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment. While progress is clearly evident, much remains to be accomplished. Our ultimate goal of reducing the burden of cancer in this nation and worldwide can only be accomplished through a strong commitment to further research.
