Activity: A Million More

Description: Prescribe Wellness is launching a quarterly population health initiative to encourage individuals to take the small necessary steps for better health. This fall, Prescribe Wellness will support 1,000 communities with a goal of getting 1,000 extra participants in each community immunized against the flu: A Million More.

Activity: Flu + You Press Briefing and Vaccination Clinic

Description: As part of the Flu + You campaign in Tampa, the WCFAAA will host an educational event and flu clinic at the Town N Country Senior Center. Maureen Kelly, President and CEO of the WCFAAA, Adewale Troutman, MD, MPH, Executive Director, Public Health Practice, Leadership, University of South Florida, College of Public Health and President-elect of the American Public Health Association (APHA), Alice Horton, RN, SCHN, Adult Immunization Outreach Coordinator of the Hillsborough County Health Department, will present to older adults about influenza prevention strategies, including vaccination for their age group. Description: As part of the Flu + You campaign, the Area Agency on Aging of Palm Beach/Treasure Coast will be hosting an educational event and flu vaccination clinic at Boynton Beach Senior Center on Thursday, September 13 at 10:30 a.m. featuring presentations from Jaime Estremera-Fitzgerald, CEO, AAA of Palm Beach/Treasure Coast, and Dr. Savita Kumar, Medical Epidemiologist, Palm Beach county Health Department, to further educate local older adults and their caregivers about influenza and vaccination for this age group.

Description: The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) will be hosting a Flu Season Awareness Night at the Washington Nationals Baseball Game! Flu Awareness Night activities include: NFID public service announcement (“Are You That Guy?”) will be featured on the jumbotron 30 minutes before the game; a welcome message on the scoreboard; reserved group of discounted field level seats available via customized online purchase page (www.nationals.com/flu) with a portion of ticket sales being donated to NFID; and staff at the community kiosk distributing educational materials and vouchers for flu vaccines at Harris Teeter stores.

Description: To support NCOA's Flu + You program in Pittsburgh, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Area Agency on Aging is hosting an educational event and flu clinic at 10:00 a.m. on September 18 at the Homewood Senior Center. Luke Ravenstahl, Pittsburgh Mayor; Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County Executive; Mildred Morrison of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Area Agency on Aging; and Dr. Ron Voorhees, Acting Director of the Allegheny County Health Department will present to older adults about influenza and vaccination for their age group.

Description: As part of the Flu + You campaign in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging and the Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Area Agency on Aging are joining forces to hold a health fair and flu immunization clinic at the Electric City Trolley Museum in downtown Scranton on September 11 at 10:00 a.m. Representatives of both Area Agencies on Aging, along with Amy Szydlowski, MPA, MSW, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Northeast District, and Lackawanna County Commissioners Jim Wansacz, Corey O’Brien, and Patrick O’Malley will present to older adults about influenza and vaccination for their age group.
