Chronic Conditions

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed a set of program statistics examining chronic conditions among beneficiaries in order to provide researchers and policymakers a better understanding of the burden of chronic conditions among beneficiaries and the implications for our health care system. These reports show that conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes are highly prevalent and, in addition, that most beneficiaries have multiple chronic conditions. These reports also highlight the use of health care services by beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions and Medicare spending associated with multiple chronic conditions.
