The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), an agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior, administers 258 million surface acres of America's public lands, located primarily in 12 Western States. The BLM sustains the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Established in 1902, the Bureau of Reclamation is best known for the dams, powerplants, and canals it constructed in the 17 western states. These water projects led to homesteading and promoted the economic development of the West. Reclamation has constructed more than 600 dams and reservoirs including Hoover Dam on the Colorado River and Grand Coulee on the Columbia River.

The mission of the BEP is to design and manufacture high quality security documents that deter counterfeiting and meet customer requirements for quality, quantity and performance. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing designs, prints, and furnishes a large variety of security documents, including Federal Reserve Notes, identification cards, naturalization certificates, and other special security documents.

FHWA is charged with the broad responsibility of ensuring that America's roads and highways continue to be the safest and most technologically up-to-date. Although State, local, and tribal governments own most of the Nation's highways, we provide financial and technical support to them for constructing, improving, and preserving America's highway system. Our annual budget of more than $30 billion is funded by fuel and motor vehicle excise taxes. The budget is primarily divided between two programs: Federal-aid funding to State and local governments; and Federal Lands Highways funding for national parks, national forests, Indian lands, and other land under Federal stewardship.

National forests and grasslands encompass 193 million acres of land, which is an area equivalent to the size of Texas.
