Pistol Skills Enhancement Training Program (PSETP)

This course is designed to allow hands on training to enhance the competence and confidence of the Law Enforcement Officers weapons handling and shooting ability. Students will receive an enhance attention from FLETC firearms instructors to insure individual strengths and weaknesses are addressed. This course is also designed to increase the accuracy and speed of the Law Enforcement Officer in the four areas the officer needs to survive a lethal force encounter, they are; draw, reloads, target transitions and fixing malfunctions.  The students will increase their skill level by working these areas in the form of drills, and an enhanced course of fire.  The course will incorporate many drills of repetition to build the shooter skills through muscle memory.  The student will perform magazine exchanges, tactical reloads, emergency reloads, initial loading and proper unloading procedures. The student will perform these exercises while firing the FLETC Pistol Skills Qualification Course.

Instructors

Instructors assigned to coordinate and work with these programs have a significant background in law enforcement/military and special weapons training.  The instructional staff includes personnel from federal law enforcement, military, state and municipal law enforcement agencies.  All instructors assigned to teach in these programs attend special instructor training programs in the disciplines assigned.

Prerequisites for Attendance

For acceptance into the program, the student must meet the following criteria: the applicant must pass a FLETC health screening; be in good physical condition; have completed at least a basic firearms training program; and be presently employed by a law enforcement agency as a sworn LEO, or as an agency instructor. Ammunition and FLETC student uniforms will be provided.
