Biography

Susan Banks-Schlegel, Ph.D., joined the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in 1986. Dr. Banks-Schlegel is a Senior Scientific Advisor, Airways Biology and Disease Branch, in the Institute's Division of Lung Diseases. Dr. Banks-Schlegel oversees the division's genetics of asthma and cystic fibrosis programs. Her areas of research interest are in asthma genetics and cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Banks-Schlegel received a Ph.D. in microciobiology from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois in 1973. She received an M.S. from Northwestern University School of Medical Technology in 1969. Dr. Banks-Schlegel is the author or coauthor of 63 articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals.

Areas of expertise: cystic fibrosis, asthma genetics.
