Cityfest

Wilmington, Delaware
$25,000

The West Center City neighborhood of Wilmington, Delaware, is currently blighted by a number of vacant buildings, both residential and commercial. One of these buildings, owned by the Wilmington Housing Partnership, is planned to become an arts engagement center—Side Street Artist Exchange.

The not-for-profit Cityfest, partnering with the City of Wilmington and Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, is commissioning a public art mural to be installed on the exterior façade of the new Side Street facility. The building is currently undergoing interior renovations; installation of the mural is expected to increase the visibility of the center and motivate the community to participate in its programming once it opens. The center will house a black box theater space, inter-disciplinary arts gallery, and open rehearsal studio/work space. The mural will be the artistic beacon for the neighborhood to awaken its creative spirit and to participate in the center's programming when it opens.
