USDA to Hold Public Meeting to Address Agenda
Items for the Codex Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force

WASHINGTON, Jan. 9, 2012 - The U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) along
with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Veterinary
Medicine, are sponsoring a public meeting to provide information and
receive public comments on agenda items and draft U.S. positions to
be discussed at the 6th Session of the Codex Ad Hoc
Intergovernmental Task Force on Animal Feeding (AFTF). The AFTF will
meet in Berne, Switzerland from Feb. 20, 2012 through Feb. 24, 2012.
The public meeting will be held on Jan. 18, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 3
p.m. in the Jaime L. Whitten Building, 1400 Independence Avenue,
S.W., Room 107-A, Washington, D.C.
The following items will be discussed during the public meeting:
- Proposed guidelines on application of risk assessment for
feed

Proposed prioritized list of hazards in feed
Documents and agenda items related to the 6th Session of the AFTF
will be accessible at the Codex website at
www.codexalimentarius.org.
Codex was established in 1963 by two United Nations organizations:
the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health
Organization. Codex seeks to protect the health of consumers and
ensure fair practices in the food trade through adoption of food
standards, codes of practice and other guidelines developed by its
committees, and by promoting their adoption and implementation by
governments.
