Middle East

The mission of the Office of Global Affairs (OGA) Middle East Branch is to strengthen global health efforts in the region by being the focal point for Departmental interaction within the Middle East region.

Activities and Priorities

Activities to fulfill office mission include:

  • Coordinating HHS health initiatives for the Middle East Region
  • Advising the Office of the Secretary in the development of policy related to global health in the region
  • Coordinating with other Federal departments, agencies, and offices as well as with international organizations, multilateral organizations, and foreign governments on global health activities

Current priorities include:

  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Disease surveillance and prevention
  • Immunizations and polio eradication efforts
  • Building health capacity through the training and retention of healthcare workers
  • Promotion of regional support for health priorities
  • Evidenced-based research
  • Public/private partnerships
