CBT Instructions

By mandating that all CMS employees complete information security training before they are granted access to CMS systems, the CMS Computer Based Training (CBT) program establishes a common baseline of security knowledge across the entire CMS enterprise.  In addition to completing the mandatory CBT, new users must also submit a certification access request, a process that is explained under the CMS System User Certification tab on the left.  CMS Information Security & Privacy training is provided through the CBT, and must be completed within three (3) working days of receipt of a CMS User ID.  The link at the bottom of this page will take you directly to this training requirement.

 

The following CMS User TYPES are required to complete the CBT:

  • CITIC Contractor
  • Non-Medicare Contractor
  • CMS Employee
  • CMS Rotation
  • Federal-Baltimore HR Center
  • Federal-Commission Corps
  • Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC)
  • Researcher
  • Other (persons instructed that are not included in this training)

The following users TYPES are exempt from the CBT requirement:

  • End-Stage Renal Disease Network
  • Federal-Centers for Disease Control
  • Federal-Dept. of Justice/Defense
  • Federal-Dept. of Veteran Affairs
  • Federal-Gov't Accountability Office
  • Federal-General Services Admin
  • Federal-Health & Human Services
  • Federal-Internal Revenue Service
  • Federal-Office of Inspector General
  • Federal-Office of General Counsel
  • Federal-Railroad Retirement Board
  • Federal-Social Security Admin
  • Federal-Other
  • HPMS Only MCO-GHP
  • Managed Care Org/Group Health Plan
  • Medicaid Drug Manufacturers
  • Medicare Advantage / Medicare Advantage with Prescription Drug / Prescription Drug Plan / Cost Contracts – Using Other Systems
  • Medicare Contractor/Intermediary/Carrier
  • Program Safeguard Contractor
  • Quality Improvement Organization
  • State Agency
