Mary Ann S. Van Duyn, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.D., L.D., is the Team Leader for the Communications and Dissemination Core, as well as a Program Director within the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In this role, Dr. Van Duyn coordinates the management of CRCHD’s efforts to communicate and dissemination information, products and evidence-based programs to reduce cancer health disparities to the public and scientific community. Her responsibilities also include a lead role in planning and developing a new geographically-based disparities research initiative, managing investigator-initiated grants/supplements, and co-managing the Patient Navigation Research Program.
Prior to her appointment at CRCHD, Dr. Van Duyn served as Chief of the Health Promotions Branch in the NCI Office of Communications, and as a Project Director for NCI-related energy balance projects. Her work over the last 15 years has focused on the development, implementation, and evaluation of public health and cancer control communication/education and marketing programs for multi-ethnic populations, and delivery systems at community, national, and international levels.
Dr. Van Duyn received a B.S. from Cornell University, an M.P.H. from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a Ph.D. in nutrition/behavioral sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Van Duyn’s training also includes a dietetic internship from the Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is a registered dietitian and licensed in Maryland and D.C.
Dr. Van Duyn is the author or co-author of over 25 articles published in the scientific literature and numerous published reports. She has presented her work both nationally and internationally.
