February 11, 2011It is a pleasure to introduce myself as the new Acting Director at the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services’ Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. I have just returned to HHS after a year working at the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships where I had the opportunity to work with our Partnership staff across government. Alexia Kelley has just begun a detail to the White House and will return to her role as Director of the Partnership Center when the detail has concluded. More information about several other conference call briefings is available in the “Upcoming Events” section of the newsletter. As always, the latter section of our newsletter includes updated grants that faith-based and community non-profits can pursue. Remember that it’s always important to review the funding announcement thoroughly to ensure that the grant is one that is appropriate to your organization’s mission, size, and scope. |

Please join Joshua DuBois, Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, Administrator, Health Resources and Services Administration for a conversation on how the Affordable Care Act is fostering health careers and expanding access to primary care, particularly in underserved urban and rural communities.
For too long, our nation has suffered from a shortage of primary care health professionals. As our nation grows and ages, and as we seek to develop a more efficient and effective health care system, we will need even more primary care practitioners in the future. The Affordable Care Act invests in the training and development of primary care professionals to help meet the future health care needs of our country.
We want to ensure that faith and community leaders have the most up-to-date information and resources to share with your communities and congregations.
