The Partnership Center Newsletter

July 7, 2010

Dear Partners,

On July 1st, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unveiled HealthCare.gov, a new online tool with an insurance finder that makes it easy for consumers to compare insurance plans and find the option that works best for them. Please see our Featured Update below for more information, which includes a short video tour of the website and the announcement from HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

In addition, HHS’ Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) just announced the Pregnancy Assistance Fund. States, tribes, and territories can use funding from the Pregnancy Assistance Fund to work with a wide range of stakeholders to provide needed services to pregnant and parenting teens and women. OAH plans to award approximately 25 grants totaling $25 million.

Applications are due August 2, 2010. For more information on this funding opportunity, please visit OAH’s current grant announcements related to Teen Pregnancy Prevention.

As always, please review the bottom section of our newsletter for updated eligible grants for faith-based and community non-profits Remember that it’s always important to review the funding announcement thoroughly to ensure that the grant is one that is appropriate to your organization’s mission, size, and scope.

Featured Update

This month, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) launched HealthCare.gov, a transparent, innovative website where consumers can compare insurance plans specific to their life situation and local community. After answering a few basic questions, the new insurance finder automatically sorts through a huge catalog of public and private coverage options to help consumers identify the ones that meet their needs.

As HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced on the White House blog:

HealthCare.gov will help take some of the mystery out of shopping for health insurance…The site makes a system that thrived on complication and confusion easier to understand. This kind of transparency helps create informed consumers which increases competition, reduces prices and improves quality.”

HealthCare.gov also contains information on every Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program in the country, and information on the Pre-Existing Condition Plan in every state.  Consumers can learn tips for preventing illness at the “Quick Guide to Healthy Living”; get an introduction to the Affordable Care Act; and find information for seniors, families with children, people with disabilities, and others.

To learn more, take a short video tour of the website.
