Scholarships

Looking for Free Money for College or Trade School

For most students, the big question is, "Where can I find free money for college?" There are a number of sources, including these:

Scholarships and Fellowships from the U.S. Department of Education

For information about the U.S. Department of Education's Byrd Scholarship and Javits Fellowship, visit the Scholarships page in the Federal Student Aid section of this site.

Scholarships and Fellowships From Other Federal Agencies

For information about other agencies' programs, visit www.studentaid.ed.gov/othersources.

Nonfederal Scholarships

Students can find out about nonfederal scholarships and other sources of aid in several ways, including contacting the financial aid offices at the schools they plan to attend and checking information in a public library or online. However, students need to make sure scholarship information and offers they receive are legitimate and not scams. Students don't have to pay to find scholarships. Send your students to www.studentaid.ed.gov/LSA for information about finding free money and avoiding scholarship fraud.

For a free online scholarship search, your students may visit www.studentaid.ed.gov/scholarship.
