GI SPOREs

SPOREs in GI cancers focus on translational research in the gastrointestinal system and includes cancers of the colon, rectum, stomach, esophagus, small intestine, liver, gallbladder and other digestive organs. Over 253,500 newly diagnosed cases of cancer in the digestive system, and 136,060 deaths, are expected in the United States in the year 2011, according to American Cancer Society estimates. Currently, GI SPOREs focus on cancers of the colon, rectum, esophagus, liver and pancreas, which account for the majority of new diagnoses.
