  • Lewis Hine Photographs for the National Child Labor Committee, 1908 - 1912
    483 groundbreaking Lewis Hine photographs of child labor abuses for the National Child Labor Committee, 1908-1912. Shortly after the founding of the U.S. Children's Bureau in 1912, the Bureau received these Lewis Hine prints from the National Child Labor Committee. These materials are held by NARA's Still Picture Records (College Park MD).

    Search Hint: To retrieve the 483 digitized images:

    1. Go to http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/.
    2. Press the Yellow search button to go to the Archival Descriptions Search screen.
    3. To search only for archival descriptions that have digital copies, click the Digital Copies search button at the top of the ARC pages.

  • Lewis Hine Photographs for the National Research Project
    501 photographs from this series have been digitized. The National Research Project on Re-employment Opportunities and Recent Changes in Industrial Techniques was organized in December 1935 as part of the National Research Program of the Works Progress Administration. Its purpose was to investigate recent changes in industrial techniques and evaluate their effects on employment. Between 1937 and 1941 the NRP published more than 700 reports on a broad variety of agricultural, manufacturing and mining activities. In late 1936 the distinguished documentary photographer, Lewis Hine, was hired as chief photographer for the Project. These materials are held by NARA's Still Picture Records (College Park MD).

  • Records Relating to the Mexican Labor ("Bracero") Program, 1950 - 1964
    22 multi-page documents have been digitized from this series. The digitized documents relate to the Bracero Program, a Federally sponsored labor program during the 1950s -early 1960's, whereby migrant/migratory laborers from Mexico were provided for seasonal, mostly agricultural employment, often on the farms of California growers. The documents provide insight into Hispanic/Latino/Mexican immigration and labor history, including controversies which surfaced during the "farm labor movement" of the years thereafter. These materials are held by NARA's Pacific Region (San Bruno, CA).
