Fertility

Fertility data in the American Community Survey are reported annually. These data provide estimates of births in the last year to women 15 to 50 years old from 2000 to present, and are available for the U.S., states, metropolitan areas, and more specific geographic areas that meet minumum population sizes fo rthe given survey year.

Available Tabulations

You may access data from The American Community Survey with American FactFinder, there are eight recurring tables on fertility available since 2000.

Single year estimates for areas size 65,000 and larger are available beginning in 2006 (for data year 2005).  Three-year estimates for areas size 20,000 and larger are available beginning in 2008 (for data years 2005-2007).  Five year estimates for census block groups and larger are available beginning in 2010 (for data years 2005-2009).

You may also access the data from DataFerrett. Data on fertility of American women for the noninstitutionalized population are collected biannually in the June Current Population Survey (CPS) for the Nation. Detailed information from recent surveys and historical trends in selected tables are listed below. Data on children ever born and mothers’ age at last birth are collected for women 15 to 44 years old and are available at the national level. This data is the best source for historical trends in fertility.
