About the Office of International and Tribal Affairs (OITA)

What We Do

EPA's Office of International and Tribal Affairs (OITA) plays a crucial role in advancing the United States' international environmental priorities. Working with the experts from EPA's other program and regional offices, other government agencies, and other nations and international organizations, OITA identifies international environmental issues and helps implement technical and policy options to address them.

OITA is comprised of a multi-disciplinary staff who respect and reflect the diversity of the global community.

OITA’s mission is to protect human health and environment while advancing U.S. national interests through international environmental collaboration.

OITA also includes the American Indian Environmental Office (AIEO), which leads and coordinates the Agency-wide effort to strengthen public health and environmental protection in Indian country, with a special emphasis on helping tribes administer their own environmental programs.
