Steve Bucher, Associate Director, Refugee, Asylum and International Operations

Background Experience/Significant Achievements:

From September 2007 to April 2011, Steve Bucher was the Deputy Associate Director for the Refugee, Asylum, and International Operations Directorate. He recently served as Acting Chief Information Officer from June 2009 to January 2010. From 2006 to 2007, Steve served as Deputy Associate Director for National Security and Records Verification Directorate.  From 2000 to 2006 he served as the Deputy Director and Acting Director for Service Center Operations. During his 19 years with USCIS and the former INS, Steve also worked with the Office of Naturalization Operations in Washington, D.C. and with the Office of Records in Washington, D.C. and at the Western Regional Office in Laguna Niguel, CA.  Prior to coming to INS, Steve worked for 10 years with the Social Security Administration as an adjudicator, first-line supervisor, and office director. 

Education

Steve obtained his Bachelors degree from Penn State University, and he has a Master and Doctoral degree in Philosophy from the University of Toronto.
