CCRIS®, ChemIDplus, DIRLINE®, Gene-TOX, HSDB®, and TOXLINE® Special Now Distributed to Licensees in XML Format

April 24, 2002 [posted]

The National Library of Medicine is pleased to announce distribution of CCRIS, ChemIDplus, DIRLINE, Gene-TOX, HSDB, and TOXLINE Special in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) format to NLM's data licensees. NLM will continue to distribute CCRIS, Gene-TOX, and HSDB in the soon-to-be-discontinued ASCII format for several more months as some licensees make their transition to XML. Fact sheets for these databases are available from the NLM Web site.

NLM began to distribute MEDLINE in XML in 2000 (see NLM to use XML and DTD for MEDLINE Data). DTDs (Document Type Definition) have now been written to define the XML format for the databases named above. Instructions for getting the DTDs and sample records in XML format and general information on leasing NLM databases are available. Announcements dated March 12 and April 8, 2002 to existing licensees about these files, collectively referred to as the TOXNET files, appear on NLM's Web site for licensees.

CCRIS, ChemIDplus, Gene-TOX, HSDB, and TOXLINE Special may be searched at no cost at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/ and DIRLINE may be searched at no cost at http://dirline.nlm.nih.gov/ as well as through the NLM Gateway.
