USDA to Hold Public Meeting to Address Agenda Items for the Codex Committee on General Principles |

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service is sponsoring
a public meeting to provide information and receive public comments on agenda items, and draft U.S. positions to be discussed at the 27th
Session of the Codex Committee on General Principles (CCGP),
which will be held in Paris, France from April 2-6, 2012.
The public meeting will be held on March 28, 2012 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Jamie L. Whitten Building, USDA, 1400 Independence Avenue SW, Room 107-A,
Washington, D.C. 20250. Documents and agenda items related to the 27th Session of the CCGP will be accessible at the Codex website at
www.codexalimentarius.org.
Items on the agenda will include:
- Proposed standards that have been recommended for approval but not yet adopted by the Codex Commission
- Ideas for evaluating the possible economic impacts on countries of proposed Codex standards
- Definition of the term "Hazard"
- A review of risk analysis policies of Codex Committees
- Development of Joint Codex-World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Standards
Codex was established in 1963 by two United Nations organizations: the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization.
Codex seeks to protect the health of consumers and ensure fair practices in the food trade through adoption of food standards, codes of practice
and other guidelines developed by its committees, and by promoting their adoption and implementation by governments.
