Professional Development

National Professional Development (NPD) is a collaboration between the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the San Francisco Unified School District. NPD plans, implements, and evaluates professional development events designed to build the capacity of state, local, territorial, and tribal education agency staff to

  • Prevent HIV infection
  • Promote physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco use prevention within the context of a coordinated school health program
  • Reduce asthma episodes

NPD’s efforts include

RMC Health develops, delivers, and evaluates professional development activities and provides follow-up support to funded nongovernmental organizations (NGOs); builds the skills of NGO staff members to effectively implement programmatic efforts; and collaborates with other CDC-funded professional development providers. RMC Health conducts annual needs assessments to target and tailor professional development service delivery to NGOs and to inform the development of two annual skill-building events, quarterly virtual PD events, individualized technical assistance, and the use of the RMC Health National Network to build collaborative partnerships.

Healthy Teen Network (HTN) is funded to provide assistance to state and local education and health agencies, juvenile justice and correctional centers, alternative schools, shelters for homeless and runaway youth, and community-based organizations. HTN helps these organizations select and implement evidence-based interventions identified by CDC as effective in reducing health risk behaviors and improving health behaviors and health outcomes among youth.
