Avoiding Pregnancy

Photo: Group of young adults

Unintended Pregnancy: An unintended pregnancy is one that is either mistimed or unwanted at the time of conception. In 2001, about one half of the pregnancies in the United States were unintended.

Contraception: There are several safe and highly effective methods of contraception to prevent unintended pregnancy. Click to find contraception rates, reports, and research.

Teen Pregnancy: Teen mothers are less likely to finish high school and are more likely to live in poverty than other teens. Pregnancy, birth, and abortion rates for teenagers have dropped significantly over the past decade.

Folic Acid: As a woman, you need folic acid every day, whether you’re planning to get pregnant or not, for the healthy new cells your body makes daily.
