The Self-Study STD Module – Gonorrhea is a web-based training course designed to guide clinicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of gonococcal infection. This module is based on the STD curriculum developed by the National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers.
After completing this course you will be able to:
1. Discuss the distribution and frequency of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in the U.S.
2. Describe the pathogenesis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
3. Describe the clinical manifestations and sequelae/complications of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
4. Discuss the common laboratory tests used in the diagnosis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
5. List the CDC recommended treatment for Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
6. Describe patient follow-up and partner management for Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
The Self-Study STD Module – Gonorrhea is intended for the following
clinicians in primary care settings who desire a basic introduction to STD
diagnosis and management:
• Nurses
• Nurse practitioners
• Nurse-midwives
• Physician assistants
• Physicians
Prerequisites: Participants should be practitioners who have successfully
completed a training program that included introduction to STD assessment,
treatment and prevention.
Students completing the Self-Study STD Module – Gonorrhea can earn continuing education in one of the following categories:
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
This activity provides 1.2 contact hours.
Continuing Education Units (CEU)
The CDC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International
Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow
Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. The CDC is authorized by IACET to
offer 0.1 ANSI/IACET CEU's for this program.
