Programs That Sponsor or Conduct Clinical Trials

  • Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP)
CTEP is the program within the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis that plans, assesses, and coordinates all aspects of clinical trials.
  • Center for Cancer Research
The Center for Cancer Research at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland exists to seek answers for critical questions about a particular diseases or disease process and to identify promising new therapeutic interventions that can then be confirmed in larger studies carried out across the country at cancer centers participating in NCI-supported research.
  • CCR Clinical Trials at NIH
Cancer clinical trials conducted at NIH are aimed at answering critical questions about a particular disease or disease process and at identifying promising new therapeutic interventions that can then be confirmed in larger studies carried out across the country at cancer centers participating NCI-supported research.
  • Office of Cancer Centers
OCC supports major academic and research institutions throughout the United States to sustain broad-based, coordinated, interdisciplinary programs in cancer research.
  • NCI-Designated Cancer Centers
NCI-Designated Cancer Centers develop and translate scientific knowledge from promising laboratory discoveries into new treatments for cancer patients. They are at the forefront of NCI-supported efforts at universities and cancer research centers across the United States. Find a center near you and learn about their research capabilities and patient services.
  • NCI's Clinical Trials Cooperative Group Program
A fact sheet about the NCI program for academic institutions and treatment centers that work with NCI to design and conduct clinical trials.
  • Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP)
CCOP connects patients with more than 3,000 community-based physicians at nearly 400 hospitals to take part in NCI-sponsored cancer treatment, prevention, and control clinical trials in 34 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.
  • NCI Community Cancer Centers Program
NCCCP is a three-year pilot program to test the concept of a national network of community cancer centers to expand cancer research and deliver the latest, most advanced cancer care to a greater number of Americans in the communities in which they live.
  • NCI's Cancer Imaging Program - Clinical Trials
Promotes and supports cancer-related basic, translational, and clinical research in imaging sciences and technology, and integration and application of these imaging discoveries and developments to the understanding of cancer biology and to the clinical management of cancer and cancer risk.

Clinical Trials Coordination and Development

  • Coordinating Center for Clinical Trials
Seeks to enhance the best of all the components of the NCI-supported clinical trials system to develop a cooperative enterprise built on a strong scientific infrastructure and a broadly engaged coalition of critical stakeholders.
  • The NCI Experimental Therapeutics (NExT) Program
The NExT program is designed to safely shorten the timeline for new drug development.
  • Transforming the NCI Clinical Trials Enterprise
NCI is implementing a comprehensive approach to transforming its clinical trials system that acknowledges the IOM Report recommendations and the Clinical Trials Working Group (CTWG) Report along with current stakeholder input to create a highly integrated, national clinical trials network.

Programs That Provide Support to Clinical Trials

  • Developmental Therapeutics Program
As the drug discovery and development arm of NCI, the Developmental Therapeutics Program plans, conducts, and facilitates the development of therapeutic agents for cancer and AIDS.
  • NCI/CTEP Collaborations
