Adolescent Reproductive Health

CDC’s Division of Reproductive Health, Adolescent Reproductive Health program promotes sexual and reproductive health among adolescents and young adults with a primary focus on youth facing disparities and high rates of unintended pregnancy. Through partnerships and capacity building, we accomplish our mission by translating science into practice to reduce sexual risk behaviors and promote healthy youth development.

We fulfill our mission by—

  • Engaging all sectors of the population in a communitywide effort to address teen pregnancy prevention.
  • Ensuring linkages between teen pregnancy prevention programs and community-based clinical services, as allowable under federal law.
  • Establishing linkages between teen pregnancy prevention program partners and clinics that serve at risk youth from the target community and ensuring clinical partners are providing teen friendly culturally competent reproductive health care services that are available and easily accessible to all youth in the community.
  • Supporting the sustainability of the communitywide teen pregnancy prevention effort.
  • Raising awareness of community partners about the link between teen pregnancy and social determinants of health, and ensuring culturally and linguistically appropriate programs and reproductive health care services are available to youth.
  • Supporting the exchange of information among scientific and program colleagues, partners, and the public.

Our strategic areas of focus for 2010–2015

  1. Reducing Teen Pregnancy
  2. Research and Evaluation: Assessing Our Impact and Researching Innovative Strategies
