DRAFT IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

As part of President Obama's National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes, the National Ocean Council has released the draft Implementation Plan to address some of the most pressing challenges facing the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes. It describes more than 50 actions the Federal Government will take to improve the health of the ocean, coasts, and Great Lakes, which support tens of millions of jobs, contribute trillions of dollars a year to the national economy, and are essential to public health and national security.

OCEAN.DATA.GOV

The National Ocean Policy’s Framework for Effective Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning calls for the development of a robust information management system to allow easy access to and transparency of data and information necessary for coastal and marine spatial planning. Successful planning requires the synthesis of a broad range of data and information about ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes environments and the way people use these environments.

To fit these needs, the National Ocean Council teamed with the Data.gov initiative to create ocean.data.gov, an open and accessible website that houses and references a wealth of information and tools available to support ocean planning efforts.
