Outside of the United States

Be aware that your pharmacy coverage has some limitations outside of the United States.

TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery
To fill prescriptions via home delivery, the prescription must be from a U.S.-licensed provider and you must have an APO or FPO address.  Please note that medications that require refrigeration cannot be shipped to an APO or FPO address.

Important Information about Using Home Delivery Overseas

Home delivery to APO/FPO addresses is subject to local laws. There is a chance that prescription medications sent to APO/FPO addresses may be seized by local nation customs authorities.

For example, German customs officials are enforcing legal restrictions on imported items, including prescription drugs being sent there through the APO/FPO system. >>View Germany Home Delivery Pharmacy Spot

If your prescription medications are seized, contact Express Scripts customer service at 1-877-363-1303 or at one of the country-specific phone numbers listed on the Express Scripts contact page to discuss other ways to get your prescription.

If you are currently getting your prescription medications through TRICARE Home Delivery outside of U.S. Territories overseas, please consider alternative means to fill your prescriptions. These include getting them from the nearest military treatment facility or from a host nation pharmacy. If you purchase them from a local pharmacy, you must pay for them up front and file a TRICARE claim.

Military Pharmacies
While military treatment facilities (MTFs) are located overseas, there aren't as many as in the United States.  Find an MTF near you

TRICARE Retail Network Pharmacies
TRICARE network pharmacies are only located in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S.Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.  If living or traveling in other areas outside of the United States, a network pharmacy is not available. Find a network pharmacy near you.

Host Nation Pharmacies
You can have prescriptions filled at host nation pharmacies, if necessary.  Host nation pharmacies are treated the same as non-network pharmacies.  You may have to pay for the total amount first and then file a claim with the pharmacy contractor to receive a reimbursement.

  • Active duty service members will receive a full reimbursement
  • All others will receive a partial reimbursement based on non-network pharmacy costs

If you have prescriptions filled in the Philippines, you must get them from a TRICARE-certified pharmacy. To ensure your pharmacy claim will be reimbursed, be sure to select a pharmacy from the Philippines Certified Provider List.

Enrolled in the US Family Health Plan?

Remember, you will fill prescriptions through your US Family Health Plan's pharmacies, either onsite, network or mail-order, depending on what pharmacy options are available with your plan.  You will not access military treatment facility pharmacies or TRICARE's other pharmacy options. Do you have a family member who is also a provider?

Providers can't write prescriptions of any kind (controlled or non-controlled) for family members.
