Healthier Patients. Stronger Communities.

Nearly 10,000 National Health Service Corps clinicians are treating some 10.4 million people in underserved communities nationwide. On Corps Community Day 2012, we celebrated the important work of the Corps in increasing access to primary care where it’s needed most.  Special thanks to NHSC Ambassadors, clinicians, sites, alumni and friends who made this year's celebration so meaningful.

More than 145 events took place in celebration of Corps Community Day, from community health fairs in North Dakota, Texas and Pennsylvania to networking and provider appreciation events in Colorado, Iowa and Puerto Rico, to health career fairs and activities in California, Georgia, Tennessee and Washington, DC.

Check out the Celebrating healthier patients and stronger communities blog post by Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health care law increases access to primary care through National Health Service Corps national press release and Growth of the NHSC overview.

Updates, photos and videos from local Corps Community Day events are being shared on the Corps’ Flickr, Twitter and Facebook pages.

If you wanted to, but weren't able to plan an event this year, e-mail CorpsCommunityDay@hrsa.gov to find out how you can get involved for Corps Community Day 2013 nice and early.  We're looking for volunteers to be on various planning committees!

Host a presentation about the National Health Service Corps at a college and/or health professional school in your community. Connect with school administrators to schedule a time to present to students on Corps Community Day. During your presentation, share about your journey that led you to a career in primary care and the NHSC.

Educate health professional students about the Corps. Do you have a friend, relative or neighbor thinking of pursuing a career in primary care? Tell them about the National Health Service Corps! Consider sending them NHSC At-A-Glance Fact Sheet (PDF - 161 KB) and directing them to the NHSC Facebook page.

Host an NHSC site tour for local students interested in pursuing a health professional career in primary care. Open your doors on Corps Community Day for local students to get a glimpse into a career in primary care in a medically underserved community.

Post the Corps Community Day Web badge to your school or organization’s Web site and Facebook page to spread the word about the Corps and all the primary care focused activities happening during National Primary Care Week.

  • Host a Community Event

Hold a health fair to provide screenings, flu vaccinations and/or educational materials.
