October is

National Principals Month

Join NASSP and NAESP as we honor the hard work and dedication of America’s principals all month long.

National Principals Month is your opportunity to say “thank you” to principals everywhere and to share with the community all the great things that principals do.

As you plan your National Principals Month activities, be sure to check out our Ideas for Celebrating and our interactive National Principals Month wall, where you can read about and post activities happening in schools and communities nationwide.

The key to student success is a great school, and the key to a great school is a great principal.

US Dept. of ED Officials Shadow Principals
for a Day

  • High-ranking officials at the US Department of Education will spend a day during the second week of October shadowing principals for a day to learn more about their work and how it contributes to achievement. Secretary Arne Duncan will then convene a meeting of all the participants to debrief and share observations about the principal’s role.

House and Senate Introduce Principals Month Resolutions

  • Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) and Rep. Susan Davis (D-CA) introduced resolutions in both chambers of Congress recognizing October 2012 as National Principals Month. Read the House and Senate resolutions.
