Each year in the United States, patients get more than a million infections in the hospital while being treated for something else. The best way to help prevent infection is to practice proper hand hygiene. Hand Hygiene Saves Lives shows how patients can play an active role in reminding healthcare providers to practice hand hygiene in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

3:33 I know docs aren't as respected as they were in the past, but very few people have the nerve to tell a physician to wash her hands as if she were a child. Nor should they have to. It should be SOP for healthcare providers to wash up as soon as they enter the room in full view of the patent or face disciplinary action, including termination. Making the patient and his family responsible for clean-handed docs is like making the flier responsible for sober pilots.
