My mother was a heavy smoker. When my mother was dying of lung cancer in palliative care, I made a number of sketches of her. I could not look at the sketches for several years, and then I created a silkscreen about loss called "Never Easy". This animation is based on the image from that print. My mother died of lung cancer in 1993; it took me another 6 years to successfully quit smoking myself. "Buyer beware" is released under the Creative Commons Canada 2.5 license, some rights reserved. Please note, though this is creative commons. it is licensed no derivations (and non-commercial). I did not want to see any comic riffs of this content.

I have been smoking around 26 years +, one and a half pack per day = 30 sticks...I stopped smoking completely just last year on Good Friday and now I'm free from nicotine...

Well regardless of what you're smoking, you're inhaling oxidized hydrocarbons, and that can oxidize the cells in your llungs, which causes cancer. I smoked cigarettes for 7 years and quit a year and a half ago.

Sorry for being an idiot but...what do people get from "smoking"? for example, chocolate has -- it's nice sweet taste and caffeine. "weed" makes you feel good but smoking? is it like the same?

My last cigarette was on June 4th at 9:30pm. Been smoke free about a month and a half. I think my favorite thing about quitting so far is the amount of energy I have these days.

Smoking is like killing yourself slowly. Yes, smoking is a killer...a SILENT killer that takes life in gradual and painful way. Valid medical research proved it. So, if you're one of those smokers, quit now and improve the quality of life.
