Remittance Rule Session

By

We held a live session on October 16th to talk about the new requirements for remittance transfer providers.

The rule to implement the consumer protections created by the Dodd-Frank Act for certain electronic transfers of funds to other countries – the remittance rule – will go into effect on February 7, 2013.

You can read CFPB Director Richard Cordray’s full remarks and see the remittance rule presentation slides from the event.

If you missed the event, you can watch below:

I wanted to ask the CFPB team a few questions, but I received an auto reply from CFPB_RemittanceRule@CFPB.gov stating that the email inbox is not monitored and that they cannot respond to questions about the remittance rule sent to the email address. I am disappointed.

    • http://www.consumerfinance.gov CFPB Web Team

Tricia — Thank you for reaching out. We apologize for the confusing message you got. We are updating the autoreply, and want you to know that we check all of the emails sent to that account and will respond to questions on the rule sent there.

  • Angie

Will this session be recorded so that those of us who are not able to participate in the live streaming can view it later? I too submitted a request to the email above and have not yet received a response. Thank you.

    • http://www.consumerfinance.gov CFPB Web Team

Thanks for your question, Angie. We will post a recorded version of the webinar at a later date. Thank you, also, for your emailed question. Our team is working to review all of the questions and will answer them as soon as they’re able.

Slide 14 Dana Miller said that if senders didn’t know exact tax rate to be charged, they could estimate on the high side for disclosure purposes. Does this apply to fees charged by foreign institution. If we don’t know what fees they will charge, is the CFPB okay with us providing a high estimate for that fee?

    • http://www.consumerfinance.gov CFPB Web Team

Thank you for your question. Please email questions directly to CFPB_RemittanceRule@CFPB.gov.

  • Bill

I have no sound, I will download the recorded version and listen to it at home. Are you going to email whent he download version is accessble. Our system does not have the audio capabilities, I had emailed several days ago asking if youhad a phone line available, no response soI assume it was a negative.

This webinar was much better than one I paid $300 for from a reputable banking resource. You explained the requirements in plain English and went into just enough depth. I HOPE YOU WILL DO MORE OF THESE INFORMATION SESSIONS FOR US. Great job, CFPB!
