Dental Care When Traveling

If you are using one of TRICARE's dental options, you're covered for emergency dental care when you are traveling on business or vacation.

TRICARE Active Duty Dental Program
Active duty service members (ADSMs) living or working within 50 miles of a military dental treatment facility (DTF) must initiate all care at a DTF, even when traveling for short periods of time. However, ADSMs on extended leave more than 50 miles from their DTF, may receive dental care from any participating dentist, but you must call United Concordia to coordinate private sector dental care prior to receipt of care at 1-866-984-2337. Please ensure that you inform United Concordia of your extended-leave status.

Additionally, if you are traveling (leave or duty-related) more than 50 miles from a DTF and experience a dental emergency, you may seek treatment from any civilian dentist, but follow-up care with a non-network dentist is not authorized. You should contact United Concordia at 1-866-984-2337 to let them know about the treatment. Learn more about the Active Duty Dental Program.

ADSMs living and working more than 50 miles from a DTF are considered remote and are eligible to receive civilian dental care while traveling as long as it conforms to the Remote Active Duty Dental Program requirements.

TRICARE Dental Program
You may visit any licensed dentist within the service area for treatment, but if you visit a participating dentist, you can same time and money:

• In the OCONUS Service Area, search the TRICARE OCONUS Preferred Dentist list available at: https://mybenefits.metlife.com/tricare

TRICARE Retiree Dental Program
If traveling anywhere in the United States, you may visit any licensed dentist within the service area for treatment. If you select a dentist from the dentist network, you'll save money and the dentist will file claims for you.

If traveling overseas, search a list of dentists and dental clinics in virtually every country, provided through Delta Dental's international dentist referral service. You may also select an overseas dentist from the overseas host nation provider search tool.
