Composition of Our Science and Technology Investments

To meet current and emerging warfighter needs and deliver future force capabilities, the Office of Naval Research invests in 90 percent of its portfolio in mid- and long-term research while allowing for responsive, limited near-term technology insertions.

Organizational Outputs

Science and technology investments enable the technical superiority of our naval forces by producing knowledge and transitions, and growing a healthy science and engineering workforce.

Science on Two Tiers

Our directorates oversee portfolios for discovery and invention, future naval capabilities, innovative naval prototypes and more. At the department level, ONR investigates, researches and supports technology focus areas outlined in the Naval Science & Technology Strategic Plan.

International Presence

ONR Global extends beyond U.S. borders to build partnerships with leading researchers around the globe. This international arm reaches four continents and numerous commands within the fleet, and opens collaboration opportunities around the globe.
