DCEO's Office of Coal Development is dedicated to the development and use of Illinois' extensive coal resources as a fuel source for the 21st century. 

Illinois Coal Competitiveness Program grants provide partial funding towards costs associated with new mine production or expansion and upgrades to infrastructure to improve coal extraction, preparation and transportation systems within Illinois. Illinois Coal Demonstration Program grants provide partial funding to bring state-of-the-art, advanced coal-use technologies to commercial readiness. Contact Dan Wheeler at 217/558-2645 for more information. Click here to download an application.

Illinois Coal Research Program grants provide partial funding to research clean coal technology, coal chemistry, mining productivity and coal combustion byproduct utilization. Illinois Coal Development Program grants seek to advance promising clean coal technologies beyond the research stage towards commercialization. The program provides a 50/50 match with private industry dollars to support market-driven needs of the industry. Development processes include technology maturation, technology transfer and related studies. Applications may be downloaded on the Illinois Clean Coal Institute web site at http://www.icci.org

Illinois Coal Revival Program grants provide partial funding to assist with the development of new, coal-fueled electric generation capacity and coal gasification or IGCC units that generate chemical feedstocks or transportation fuels derived from Illinois coal.
