CBP Officers Nab Odessa Man Sought on Child Sex Charges

(Tuesday, July 24, 2012)

Presidio, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Presidio port of entry apprehended a man being sought in Ector County, Texas. CBP officers arrested 62-year-old Andres Reyes July 20.

The apprehension was made at approximately 8:20 a.m. when Reyes entered the port of entry from Mexico as a pedestrian. A CBP officer working the primary inspection station interviewed Reyes and queried his name. The CBP officer was notified that there was an active National Crime Information Center (NCIC) warrant for Reyes. He was being sought by officials in Ector County on indecency with a child and child fondling charges. Reyes was taken into custody. CBP officers confirmed the warrant information. Reyes was turned over to the Presidio police department.

“CBP officers are the guardians of our nation’s borders,” said Ruben Jauregui, acting CBP Presidio Port Director. “The inspections we perform are designed to stop terrorists and tools of terror from entering our nation however as demonstrated in this case those exams also help identify and stop others who are a danger to our communities. Every year CBP officers around the nation apprehended hundreds of fugitives.”

While anti-terrorism is the primary mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the inspection process at the ports of entry associated with this mission results in impressive numbers of enforcement actions in all categories.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
