Del Rio Border Patrol Agents Seize Half a Million Dollars Worth of Marijuana

(Tuesday, October 02, 2012)

Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector seized more than 800 pounds of marijuana and arrested a drug smuggler recently.

Thursday, Carrizo Springs Station agents stopped a 2002 Ford F-250 truck, loaded with several large bundles of marijuana, and arrested the driver. The bundles were discovered in a hidden compartment located inside a diesel tank mounted on the bed of the truck. The total amount of marijuana seized was 646 pounds, with an estimated value of $517,120. The subject and the contraband were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

On Friday, Eagle Pass South Station agents discovered several military-style duffel bags abandoned on a local Eagle Pass ranch. The bags contained 235 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $188,032. The narcotics were turned over to the DEA.
