FDA collaborates with PAHO to launch the new Regional Platform on Access and Innovation for Health Technologies in the Americas

On May 7, 2012, the Pan American Health Organization disclaimer icon  (PAHO) with the collaboration the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Ministry of Health of Brazil launched the "Regional Platform on Access and Innovation for Health Technologies disclaimer icon ” in the Americas at an event at PAHO Headquarters in Washington, DC.

The platform will improve transparency, information flow, and cooperation among countries in the Americas and promote access, innovation, rational use, and governance of essential medicines, biological, and diagnostics in public health. Navigation of the platform will be available in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

“Our collective success depends on our carrying out collaborative efforts to strengthen regulatory systems,” said Mary Lou Valdez, the FDA’s Associate Commissioner for International Programs and Director, Office of International Programs. “PAHO’s Regional Platform is a tangible example of the type of collaboration that we need in order to succeed.” She said the platform would promote dialogue and cooperation in all areas of medicines and technological innovation in the Americas.
