Board Organizes Advisory Committee on Emergency Transportable Housing August 27, 2007

The Board has organized an advisory committee to provide recommendations on supplementing its guidelines to specifically cover emergency transportable housing. Access to such housing proved problematic in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and, after verifying and examining the issues involved, the Board has determined that supplementary guidelines are needed. As indicated in a published notice, the committee includes representatives from:

• Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities
• Department of Housing and Urban Development
• Department of Justice
• Federal Emergency Management Agency
• Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform
• Manufactured Housing Institute
• National Center for Environmental Health Strategies, Inc.
• National Council on Independent Living
• National Fire Protection Association
• Recreation Park Trailer Industry Association
• Recreation Vehicle Industry Association
• United Spinal Association

The new committee will hold its first meeting September 24 and 25 in Washington, D.C. from 9:00 to 5:00 at the Access Board’s offices. The meeting will be open to the public and time on the agenda will be reserved for comment.
