That's why it's crucial to have top-notch psychiatrists available to diagnose, treat and manage the mental health of Airmen around the world. As an Air Force Psychiatrist, you'll be responsible for ensuring your patients get the care and support they need so they can accomplish their mission.

Career Tasks

• Prepare and review case histories, evaluate data and measure the effectiveness of a wide range of therapeutic measures.
• Perform management duties, including formulating plans for psychiatric services, directing mental health clinics, advising on problems related to mental health and prevention of mental disorders while serving as a medical and psychiatric consultant to clinical psychologists and social workers.
• Coordinate psychiatric services with other medical activities and serve as a consultant on psychiatry.

Becoming a Direct Commission Officer

To ease your transition into the Air Force, you'll enter a five-week training regimen designed to educate you on the ways of both the military and military healthcare. You'll participate in physical conditioning five days a week, leadership training and classroom studies.
