Children’s Bureau Commemorates 100-year Anniversary by Celebrating Adoption Advocates

The Adoption Excellence Awards recognize outstanding accomplishments in achieving permanency for America's children waiting in foster care. An annual program that grew out of the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997, these awards honor States, local agencies, private organizations, courts, businesses, individuals, and families making key contributions to increasing the number of children from foster care who are adopted or placed in other permanent homes. Since this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Children's Bureau, we are honoring past and present partnerships, States, and families that have contributed to the Bureau's mission and made significant impacts on the children, families, and professionals we serve. The 2012 Centennial Adoption Excellence Awards were presented on October 10 in Washington, DC, during a reception at the Children’s Bureau's 2012 Leadership Institute.
