Central Texas Pastor Delivers Opening Prayer for U.S. House
10/06/09(WASHINGTON, DC) – Central Texas Pastor Greg Schannep helped convene the U.S. House of Representatives today as the Guest Chaplain. He delivered an opening prayer to Congress at 1 p.m. Central Time, which can be watched here. You can view the text by clicking here.
"We pray for the Members of the House of Representatives, their staffs and their families," he said in his address. "We ask that they be men and women of strong character with sound morality, and people of principle who share a strong vision of a godly nation with a bright future."
Schannep, senior pastor at Faith Fellowship and Christian Life Center in Harker Heights, held the church’s first worship service on Sept. 13. Read about the new fellowship here.
He also is the regional director for Congressman John Carter’s (TX-31) office, where he has served since January 2005.
"Not only has Greg been a valuable asset to my staff, but he is a man of great faith," Carter said. "It’s truly an honor to be friends with Greg and support him on this new endeavor to help people celebrate and learn about God."
Schannep is a former Army chaplain who served with the 1st Cavalry Division and III Corps. After 30 years as an active-duty soldier and officer, he retired from the Army as a colonel in 2004. He was stationed in Korea, Germany, Hawaii, Kansas and Texas during his time in the Army.
A California native, Schannep has a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University and graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif.
He is married to Marty, and they have six children and four grandchildren.

We pray that our leaders will lead with compassion and love, and be forever aware of their huge responsibility to the people of this nation and of their greater responsibility to you.
