Rio Grande Valley Sector’s Challenge Coin

(06/20/2011)
When the new sector was built in Edinburg, Texas there was much discussion as McAllen Sector located in Edinburg, Texas. The sector was renamed to the Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV). The front side of the RGV challenge coin depicts the new Border Patrol badge and our sector name. The back side of the coin lists all nine stations within the RGV Sector along the outer perimeter. The back side depicts a silhouette of the State of Texas, the Lone Star State flag, the USBP emblem and palm trees growing out of the lower Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. The palm trees many of which are native to South Texas also represent McAllen, Texas where the sector was previously located. The City of McAllen is known as the City of Palms.
