North Atlantic Council and partner nations restate commitment to Afghanistan

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the North Atlantic Council and several ISAF partner nations concluded a three-day visit to Afghanistan on Friday (19 October 2012). They met Afghan President Hamid Karzai, members of the Government and the Parliament in Kabul, regional leaders, and held meetings with ISAF and Afghan National Security Forces commanders from the East, South-West and North.

Afghan Members of Parliament reassured of NATO's long-term commitment in Afghanistan

On 11 October 2012, six distinguished members of the Afghan Lower House visited NATO HQ. The visiting delegation included parliamentarians from different Afghan provinces. During their visit, they met with several high-level officials from NATO's International Staff, including Ambassador Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy.

NATO Secretary General announces North Atlantic Council approval of new Supreme Allied Commander Europe

The North Atlantic Council has approved the appointment of General John Allen, currently the commander of the NATO-led ISAF mission in Afghanistan, as the new Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (SACEUR).
