Meet Summer Research Apprentices

This summer, the NSC facilitated several apprenticeships sponsored by Army Research Office for both undergraduates and graduate students across many different fields of study. The various backgrounds of the apprentices allowed them to be involved in several locations all around West Point, all of which contributed to the development of knowledge of network science in support of the NSC mission. The projects will have a significant impact on West Point, the Army, and the apprentices’ future endeavors.
For an overview of the research these apprentices were involved with over the summer please read the entire post on the Central Node.

 Director Supports Mission in Iraq

COL Kevin Huggins, Director of Research for Network Science at NSC (EECS), and COL Jim Raftery (EECS and Photonics Research Center) recently returned from a project supporting the Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq, located at the U.S. Embassy Military Attaché and Security Assistance Annex (EMASAA) in Baghdad. In response to a request for assistance made by the OSC-I Chief, LTG Caslen, the two USMA officers and a third officer, LTC Trevor Dison from the TRADOC Analysis Center at Ft. Leavenworth, spent the summer working within the OSC-I J5 office. Their task was to establish an Assessment Plan as part of the OSC-I Strategic Plan. The team met with all elements of the OSC-I organization and provided weekly IPRs to LTG Caslen. They also briefed the CENTCOM Commander, GEN Mattis, on the project. An Annex to the OSC-I Strategic Plan was produced and provided along with an assessment tool and training for its use to the OSC-I staff.
