If I need some assistance with my job search, who can I contact?

There are a quite a few resources available to you if you find yourself “stuck” in your career transition.  Below are some suggestions:

  • Did you know there are nearly 3,000 workforce centers (often referred to as a One Stop Career Center) all around the United States?  These centers provide employment assistance to job seekers and connections to employers.  Basically they help people find jobs and jobs find people.  All of these centers have representatives available specifically to assist Veterans in their transition to employment.  These representatives are called Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVERs) and Disabled Veterans Outreach Program specialists (DVOPs).  There are two ways to find your local representative:
    • Log onto Service Locator at www.servicelocator.org and enter your zip code in the search box located in the middle, left hand side of the page.  When you hit return you will find a list of the One Stop Career Centers closest to you.  Visit the center to see the different resources available to you (or call office and ask to speak to the Veterans representative).  Veterans are offered Priority of Service at these centers.
    • A DVOP/LVER Locator can be found on the National Veterans Training Institute website.  The easiest way to find a representative in your area is to enter your state and click "run report."  Names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses are provided.
    • Every state has a Director of Veterans Employment and Training.  If you are still having trouble, you can contact your state director to get some suggestions on how to connect to local resources.  You can find this information on the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) website.
    • The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides employment assistance through their VetSuccess program.  Check out the VetSuccess map to find an office and resources near you. You can find a regional VetSuccess employment coordinator there, too.
    • Use the National Resource Directory to find employment services in your state.
      • Click on ‘select your location’ from the Find Information by State or Territory box on the National Resource Directory main page (middle, left hand side of the page).
      • Choose your state from the drop down menu and click ‘go’.
      • You will be directed to a page with your state listed at the top and the NRD subject areas listed below.
      • Click on Employment to view the programs and resources available in your state.
