Important Safety Information: Dosing and Administration of Immune Globulin (Human), GamaSTANT S/D Packaged in 2-ml Syringes

ccording to Talecris Biotherapeutics, one lot of GamaSTAN™ S/D has been packaged and distributed in 2 mL uncalibrated syringes with fixed needles that may not permit administration of the recommended dosage when:

• A dose less than 2 mL is to be administered.
• Injection of a 2 mL dose (or less per dosage calculation) at more than one site is desired to reduce local pain and discomfort.
• An alternate needle (different length or gauge) is desired based on the patient (adult or child) and site of injection.

Talecris is sending revised instructions to end-users, to address appropriate dosing in the above circumstances, and is also posting these instructions on their website.
